This section will illustrate some of the fake pins I have come across and will highlight some things to identify them as such.
These large enamel badges are very convincing at first but are pure fantasy. Produced in Eastern Europe. Another example illustrated above. Come in many different types.
A reproduction of a SS recruiting badge after fall of France I believe. Notice fake patina applied to back. Common on ebay lately.
Poorly made RDK badge. Notice cheap pin. Poorly defined figures on front, eye is not right.
Made in the 80's , a good reproduction. Notice pin attachment on this.
The shiney metal on the back of this makes it suspect, the RZM code looks like it will convict it and the pin throws it in jail!
Any RZM code of m/129 is automatically suspect. Notice how pin overhangs edge of pin. Fake patina applied, enamel wrong.
A good copy. Enamel is wrong (too orange) and pin attachement is incorrect. Fake patina...the "oily look" on reverse.
Another bad m/129 party pin. Pin is dead give away, metal is too shiney. the front of badge has the L and the - to far apart also.
This pin is an example of possibly throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I am not 100 % sure it is a bad pin but the RZM code is not normal and how the pin is not soldered in (as was normal) lead me to shy away from it even though the enamel looks aged and the pin attachment plate is correct.

Another bad RDK pin. These pins are heavily reproduced, this one is excellent. Only way to really tell is looking at the eagle eye and lack detailed enamel edging on the swastika.
This fake Hungarian pin is out in large numbers. I have seen a real one and it has the attachment plate the normal size, not like this. This fake pin is common on ebay. Beware!
THANKS TO "P" FOR THE GREAT COMPARISON SHOTS BELOW OF SOME OF THE MORE COMMON PINS AND THEIR FAKES. THE LUDENDORFF AND ANY 129 MARKED RZM PINS SHOULD ALL BE TREATED AS HIGHLY SUSPECT HOWEVER...
